Adopt-A-Highway Program

In October, 1996, St. James assumed the responsibility of cleaning up a 0.8-mile stretch of 14th St. West in south Rock Island. This activity occurs four times a year.  It usually takes about an hour to do the job.  The four dates for picking up trash and recyclable items in 2012 will be the following Saturdays: May 5, July 7, September 8 and November 3.

The next cleanup date is planned for Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 8:45 to 10:00 am.  If you would like to pitch in and join the fun, meet at the eastern parking lot of Mel McKay park in South Rock Island at 8:45. Call Dave Renneke at 786-5247 if you need directions. At the park we will divide into two-person teams, receive instructions, put on a safety vest, and grab a trash bag. Please wear long pants and sturdy shoes.  Gloves, 32" grabbers, and bags for recycling cans will be provided.

Thanks to everyone who is helping
to make this a more beautiful place to live!
