Kenneth C. "Rex" Hall

Kenneth C. "Rex" Hall, 88, of Rock Island, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3 at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Entombment is in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum, Rock Island, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 2 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island.

Rex was born on March 30, 1921 in Keithsburg, a son of Lorenzo C. and Sina Munson Hall. He married Eleanor J. Simonsen on January 2, 1950 in Rock Island.  She died July 16, 1998.

Rex married Ila M. Kitchen on March 3, 2001 in Rock Island. Following WW II, Rex graduated from barber college and began his 39 year career as a barber in Rock Island. He joined John Basala in 1947, later becoming his partner and then owning the shop. Rex’s entire 39 years was spent on 14th Avenue in Rock Island.

He was a WW II and Korean Conflict U.S. Army veteran. Rex was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island and a past president of the Hilltop Business Association in Rock Island. While his health allowed, he was a volunteer at Trinity Medical Center and at the John Deere Classic. Rex enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Ila; son and daughter-in-law, Elwood “Woody” and Suzan Hall, Highland, Calif.; stepdaughter, Susan Snodgrass, Rock Island; stepson, John Geisendorfer, Meadville, Az.; step granddaughter, Katie Snodgrass, Rock Island; sister, Marguerite Nelson, Aledo; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife Eleanor, he was preceded in death by his son, Brian; and three brothers and four sisters.
